Tuolumne City Memorial Museum

This exquisitely detailed & hand painted ornament depicts the West Side Lumber Company of Tuolumne with the millpond, scenes of forest and farmland, Duckwall Mountain, a railroad bridge and a locomotive. The West Side Lumber Company operated from 1899-1962. The glass, 4-inch ornament is painted in China, from the inside of the ornament.

The artwork of the original is a reproduction of an original watercolor of the West Side Lumber Company by Mr. Roger Hooper. The Kellogg Family of Tuolumne loaned the original watercolor to the Tuolumne City Memorial Museum. Mr. Hooper painted the original watercolor of the West Side Lumber Company, which is reproduced on this ornament. Mr. Hooper was a member of the J.R. Prince family. Mr. Hooper married Phyllis Bates, daughter of early Tuolumne residents John and Dora Bates. Mr. & Mrs. Hooper visited Tuolumne frequently with her sister and brother-in-law Margaret and Ivar Ekman. The painting was finished in the late 1940’s or early 1950’s. Mr. Hooper, who painted as a hobby, stated, “Draw what you see.”

This one of a kind art piece and collectible ornament, which includes a fabric covered storage box sells for $25, including tax. Shipping and handling is $5 per ornament if you would like it mailed to you.
