Remembering Tuolumne

     This month we again take some headlines from The Tuolumne Prospector, June 14th,  1945 and who was in the news on the front page.

     "Mrs. Olaf Dahl has received word from her son, T/5 Thomas Dahl, U.S. Army, that he has suffered a serious eye injury which may result in the loss of the eye.  Dahl has also written to his wife who resides here, telling her of his injury. 

     "Dahl entered the service on October 22, 1942 and served many months on Saipan, Tarawa and other Pacific Island bases before coming home on furlough last December.  He was on Okinawa at the time of the recent accident.

     "He received his military training at Camp Roberts and in the Hawaiian Islands. 

     "A graduate of SUHS with the class of '30, he was employed in the West Side Commissary for many years. 

     "The Dahl's have another son, Gilbert Dahl, Fireman 1/c, serving with the U.S. Navy.  It has been four months since they have had any word from him."

And now we jump to news from The Tuolumne Prospector front page on April 10, 1947…

 

    "Pennies pulled from a "Wishing Well" at an informal party at the Wm. Scott home Saturday evening revealed the engagement of Miss Agnes Scott and Mr. Clyde Rosasco.

     "The charming bride-to-be, eldest daughter of W.L. Scott of Tuolumne City and Mrs. John Lockhart of Florida, is well known here.  She attended the local Elementary and High School, attended San Jose State College and studied music at Mills College.  For the past five years she has been employed in San Francisco and Alameda. 

     "Miss Scott has been one of the popular featured soloists during many celebrations here and has entertained at Naval Hospitals and Officers Clubs in the bay region.     

     "Mr. Rosasco, son of the late Mr. And Mrs. Henry L. Rosasco, is a well known Tuolumne County cattleman.  He was born and raised in Tuolumne City and is a graduate of Summersville Union High School.  He served in World War II and spent three years in the European Theatre of Operations.  At present he is employed as State Hide and Brands Inspector. 

     "Guests to receive the news while seated at an appropriately decorated table, included Mr. and Mrs. Louis Haller of San Jose, sister of the bride-elect; the Misses June Siseroni, Frances and Delores Hays, Mr. Jack Goodwin and Mr. Hugh Rogers, Jr, all of Oakland; Mr. and Mrs. Erna Antinetti, Mrs. Hugh Rogers, Sr., Mr. Wm. Scott and the Misses Mildred Sanders, Erna Louise Hays, Mady Jean Hays and Joan Van Opstal.

     "No date has been set for the wedding. "

Totem Pole Guest Ranch to Re-open April 5

The Tuolumne Prospector

March 28th, 1952

     "An announcement was made this week by Mrs. Jessie D. Sivori, Walter Dungan and Lloyd "Babe" Sivori that they will reopen the Totem Pole Guest Ranch to the public on April 5, 1952.

     "The Totem pole is located on the old Cherokee Road.  Mrs. Sivori, along with her husband, the late Jack Sivori, built and had formerly operated the Totem Pole.

     "Mrs. Sivori promises to serve the same fine dinners as in the past, and in the Cocktail Lounge Walt and Babe will be on hand to greet and serve their many friends.  

     "Dinners will be served on weekends and by special appointment during the week. 

     "Opening night theme will be "Fiesta" which will take you south of the border in the true simplicity of the Native Mexican Indians.  Music and entertainment will be furnished for the evening by the Totem Pole Trio.  Dinner will be served by reservation only.  For reservations call 23F22 Tuolumne. "

KILLED IN ACTION

The Tuolumne Prospector

May 6th, 1945

"According to word received by relatives here, Howard Cullers, serving with the U.S. Navy and son of Mr. & Mrs. Henry Cullers, was killed in action on Mindinow May 6.  The word was received by his parents, former local residents now residing near Placerville, Saturday, June 2, 1945.

     "Cullers was the nephew of Mrs. Laura McDow and Roy Cullers of Tuolumne City.”

 

…..and thus, another page turns in the History of Remembering Tuolumne.
