Improvement Club Christmas Party

The Tuolumne Women’s Improvement Club observed the Christmas season on Friday, Dec 19 at a party held in the Club House.

Mrs. Helen Meade, General chairman, presented a program and Mrs. Wade Archer and Mrs. Ralph Neal, hostess for the afternoon, served refreshments.  The Club House was attractively decorated with pine boughs and cones and a lighted Christmas tree.  On the piano was a beautiful display of the Nativity Scene.  The buffet table was covered with a Christmas cloth, centered with red candies and ornamental glitter balls.

Christmas Carols were sung and Santa Claus presided over a gift exchange.

A short business meeting was conducted by president Mrs. Elizabeth Tompkins and the Club voted to donate $5 to the Tuolumne County Youth Welfare fund.

Hand Bret Hart

Good Shellacking in Opener.

Last Friday afternoon, the Summerville High School baseballers handed the Bret Harte Bullfrogs a 7 to 3 defeat in the Mother Lode League opener for both squads.

Tuolumne’s hard-hitting catcher, Marlen Heldstab, collected 2 for 4 and drove in 2 runs, and also played a nice defensive game.

Summerville pitcher Charles Daily allowed the Bullfrogs 7 hits, but kept them well scattered.  Jimmy Salisbury, the Bret Harte pitcher, allowed the Bears only 4 hits, but the Bears took advantage of all the breaks.

Batteries:  Bret Harte-Salisbury, Sorocco and Ariola; Tuolumne-Dailey  and Heldstab.
