This beautiful hard-cover, 8 1/2 x 11, 1 1/4
inch thick book brings together for the first time, the history of the Tuolumne
Community and descriptions of 212 of its landmark buildings and historic sites.
Lavishly illustrated with vintage and contemporary photographs and maps, it
also includes reminiscences of many of the area's "old timers".
Although the Tuolumne Community has been home to a wide variety of people
(Central Me-Wuk, gold miners, ranchers, mill workers, and loggers), it retains
the appearance of the town created by the West Side Lumber Company for its
employees working in the woods, in the mill and on the steam railroad at the
turn of the twentieth century.
Written by Mark V. Thornton, Charla
Meacham Francis, Anne Bloomfield, Benjamin Ananian,
Shelly Davis-King, Carlo M. De Ferrari and Architectural Resources Group.
Terry Brejla, Editor, with oversight by the Historic
Preservation Review Commission.
