West Side Lumber Company

TCMM Historical Research Committee

Tuolumne County Historical Society’s Vice President Linda Clark announced that on Friday September 29th at 7:00 PM, they will be hosting a West Side Lumber Company program at the Tuolumne County Public Library, 480 Greenly Road, in Sonora.

The program will feature TCMM Volunteer Docent and WSLC Historical Researcher Art Kauppi.  If you have never seen one of Art’s WSLC presentations, this is one you will not want to miss.

Art has had a deep interest and fascination for many years with the WSLC and its operations in the woods of the Stanislaus National Forest.  He is intensely researching the deepest camps in order to record information that would be of both historical and genealogical interest.  We are fortunate to have Art available to share his information with us.   Also featured will be a few “real-life”, retired employees from the West Side Lumber Company.  Come and visit with your West Side friends.

The program will feature a slide show presentation from Art’s collection of over four-thousand WSLC photographs. He has conducted and documented many interviews with former WSLC employees about camp living and logging operations.  Art will take you on an overall tour of the West Side, sharing with you antidotes from his many interviews.

We will also have on display a 4 foot by 5 foot map of the West Side right-of-way into the woods.

The Tuolumne County Historical Society will serve refreshments and there will be a question and answer period.

Be sure to place this program on your calendar for Friday, September 29th at 7:00 PM.   Reservations are not necessary and the program is open to the public.  The Library has ample parking and is handicap friendly.
